Feeding The Fucking Sharks: Daniel Day-Lewis as The Joker?

See earlier fakepost on Heath Ledger's fakedeath. Brazil seems to be loving that post for whatever reason.

Daniel Day-Lewis will play The Joker in the third new Batman film. Christopher Nolan won't even have to rewrite the script he has already started. Plus, we all know Day-Lewis is perfectly capable of being the most frightening villain ever, so he'd make a perfect Joker!

We also know that Day-Lewis had a great deal of respect and admiration for Heath Ledger, as he dedicated his recent Screen Actors Guild award (for Daniel Plainfield in There Will Be Blood) to Heath (see info here).

I'm waiting until the 27th before I give up on Heath Ledger's supposed fake death.

Comic-con 08 might be in for a surprise.

From what I genuinely understand, Heath was--albeit quietly--sexually confused. On top of that, he was suffering from stark insomnia, a potential by-product of his indepth immersion into the his portrayl of the Joker. These probabilities were compounded by the recent cessation of a serious relationship and another particularly difficult movie role. Plus, he seems to have been "involved" with one of the proverbial twins, which would, after the sex, leave any substantially intelligent/sane man to swallow countless bottles of prescription (or otherwise) pills. The man sounded royally f'd up. The staged death concept is fascinating, as is the "7/27" possibility, but...Truthfully speaking, I think our friend, Mr. Ledger, as f'd up as things were, is nothing more than a cup or two full of ashes.

Noone will ever replace heath.

As awesome as the "fake death", July 27th thing would have been, trust me I would have loved it, it is unfortunately July 28th, and there is no Heath Ledger. Unfortunately, we must move on, and it would be ridiculous not to have Joker, who is certainly Batman's most prolific and most notable villain, in any other movies. I think Day-Lewis would do a fantastic job because his acting style is imitation acting, and he clearly has a twisted mind. I'm all for him. I don't think it would be disrespectful. Quite the opposite, I think it would be disrespectful NOT to have the Joker, and I think Heath would feel the same.

I wholeheartedly agree. Even with the huge clown shoes to fill, I think it is conceivable that another actor could (and for the series' sake, should) take Ledger's place as Batman's arch nemesis. Daniel Day-Lewis is phenomenal and could potentially be a great candidate. I think Leonardo DiCaprio, though he hasn't been mentioned, would be appropriate as well. His voice and build are comparable to Ledger's. I think Heath Ledger would want this series to continue being excellent, even if someone must replace him. Whatever Christopher Nolan decides to do, I trust will be the right decision.

I'm still crying over Heath's death... I can't believe it.

They have to bring the Joker back, because he didn't die, and apparently many of the Batman villains tie into him in some way - so, now that we've seen him, I doubt we'll be able to have a villain that doesn't.

I just really hope that they don't try to be the same Joker that Heath was... no one can ever do the job as well as he did.

Rest In Peace.

how does anyone know that noone could replace heath... He was very good but he's replaceable.

no it would suck if you even dare to replace heath leger as the joker. I wouldn't go see the movie then I don't care what you think.

Well people i am going to have to agree with the side that wants daniel day lewis as the joker... it would be immature to just cut the joker out of batman entirely... and i dont know if half of you have seen daniel day lewis in his movies.... but he is awesome, has clearly shown his diversity as an actor and will probably be the only hope in hell at paying hommage to heath's role in TDK.

Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis)
"I see the worst in people, Henry. I don't need to look past seeing them to get all I need. I've built up my hatreds over the years, little by little."

Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis)
"I drink your milkshake! I drink it up!

Of course he's replaceable. His performance isn't, but his character is. Daniel Day Lewis is among the most brilliant actors of our time. Only people who have never seen him act would say he couldn't play the Joker and make it his own.

Are they serious? Nobody can top or even match what Heath Ledger did in 'The Dark Knight', even Daniel Day-Lewis. It is also incredibly disrespectful and Day-Lewis (who has taken years between roles) shouldn't be allowed to, or want to, take on a role he would only recieve because Heath Ledger passed away. Furthermore I feel there would be an uproar if he did. They should either make the new villain The Riddler (played by Johnny Depp) or not make another one.

heath ledger didnt really "invent" the joker. he did a new take on it but the character is tied into the series/franchise more so than the actor. I think someone can take his place. Daniel day lewis seems good, but whatever chris nolan ends u[ doing would probably end up being for the better

i totally agree with you, daniel day lewis love ledger work so he take the part with full respect and with his astonish talent up joker to another level.

Daniel Day Lewis could be a brilliant Joker - even at 'half-ársed'. End of story.

Friends and i had this conversation shortly after he died, and we were going over a list of possibles and they were

1) daniel day lewis was no. 1 pick
in no particular order
giovanni ribisi
Johnny depp
leonardo di capro
ryan gossling

whats your take on these actors?

Anonymous said...

forgot one

shitty Canadian actor Ben foster
to the list as well

Anonymous said...

aside from the obvious daniel day lewis (jesus christ i wish this was real)

ribisi would be good. never thought of him. depp would be good but what are the odds. di capro, definitely. i'd like to see that actually.

ryan gossling? are you serious? why? is this about 'the pretender?'

i don't know this ben foster guy but he definitely looks the part.

If it was to play The Joker in the Dark Of Arkham Asylum and to torment Dr Harleen Quinzel in there because he believes the Doctors name to be sounding clown like, until the Doctor falls in love with Joker and turns into Harley Quinn as per the Animated Series and subsequent Comics, then yeah Daniel Day Lewis would fit the bill.

daniel day as the joker two thumbs up get the cameras rollin nowwwww make him a bit more joker tho

The Joker Needs To Be Played in the new dark knight coming up because they caught him and they putt him in jail for a while so harley quinn wich is the joker's Girlfriend supposably tries to get The Joker out of jail..Two-Face is dead right? So i guess The Riddler will be takin Two-Face's Place in the new movie...DUMB ASS'S

They should definatly bring back the joker in a dark knight sequal. People need to separate the actors from the role they portray.Without the joker there is no Batman. Daniel day lewis would be great to play the role imho. Maybe they should make him look more like the early joker concepts, they decided to throw away because they where a bit too scary: http://goneelsewhere.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/jokerart2.jpg just to make it defir a bit more from TDK..
