A lot of theater -- especially amateur theater, where people are free to do whatever they want, pretty much -- is people hating their physical features. Just getting together and hating themselves, but doing it in a constructive way that allows the audience to laugh at them without actually laughing at them. Most theatre has been a ghost of its former self for so long that it can't even remember its own name or when it died.
