Into The Ground

This blog is on hold for a few days. I'm trying not to run it (or myself) into the ground.

This blog is on hold for a few days. I'm trying not to run it (or myself) into the ground.
My intent with this upcoming guide is to expose a techniques I use to easily do movie/music multiplexing on the command line. It will be similar to the popular animated gif guide.
In the meantime, read the 240 (and counting) comments on this post I made right after Heath Ledger died early this year. Also, note that for a variety of queries related to Heath Ledger's death and whether or not it was faked, that post is the top link on Google. Funny how much difference the release of a popular movie can make.
Remember the 'long tail'.

Because I still think Georgia is the best font, I:

* Removed "labels" from sidebar. Added "index" to sidebar. If you liked the labels, they still exist, but there's no way to view them all on the same page for now. The new index may change as the focus of posts changes.
* Added custom font/graphic to overall header and sidebar headers. If you want a taste of the old Georgia/serif font headers, just disable your browser's images and reload the page.
* Colorized, pruned, and tweaked social bookmarking links in post footer.
* Various minor and uninteresting backend and stylistic tweaks.

READ MORE: a milestone of sorts, about
This site has been said to be a document of human "progress." Progress may be defined in the traditional sense, but it can also be construed oppositely. I imagine it both ways at the same time.
Some of the site's content originates here. Some is from other places. Sometimes it is generated frequently. Sometimes it reaches far back into time.
Sometimes I write guides to things, and post them. I like DIY stuff.
All of my posts are essentially drafts. I try to update them, fixing typos, tweaking things, and all that kind of stuff. This post in particular has been edited more than ten times as of this edit.
A lot of the content on this site can be found elsewhere on the Internet. My approach to posting existing content owes a great debt to the philosophy posted here. In this, I owe a lot to The New Shelton Wet/Dry.
Sometimes I like to hide or obfuscate additional information for more thorough readers. Sometimes I like to obfuscate all the information in a given post, creating symmetrical and asymmetrical misinformation.
There is RSS if you are into that sort of thing.
The website is designed with Firefox in mind. About 1/4 of visitors are using Internet Explorer. If they're using anything before IE 7 they definitely miss some of the content, such as anything between the tags and
I'd rather be rooster-holed than pigeonholed.

Added some "social web|bookmarking|e-onanism" links to the bottom of each post.![]()
Why does this query turn up so much porn?

This picture is pretty self-explanatory. This is essentially a before/after for how the site looked a few hours ago vs. how it looks now. Along with the addition of the sidebar, I made some other small tweaks that aren't particularly noteworthy and don't appear in the before/after pics.
As far as I can tell, I'm the main consumer of my blog; I, as the main consumer, am very happy with the changes I have implemented.
I will be trying to implement a change over the next 24 hours. This change will be: a column to the right where I can put some other/different page elements. I like that this site is a list. A list is good for posts, but what about other content I want people to see on the page that isn't a daily post? With my current layout, that stuff is either at the top or the bottom. If it's at the top, it obscures new posts. If it's at the bottom, it never gets read. I want people to be able to read new posts and also have access to some [mostly] static content.
