Holy Shit: Plane Carrying Mexico's Interior Minister Crashes Into Mexico City; Foul Play Possible
Transport Minister Luis Tellez said the crash in Tuesday evening rush hour traffic had been an accident, amid speculation that it had been caused by a deliberate attack on two key players in the government's crackdown on drug trafficking.
"There have been no signs that permit another hypothesis than an accident, but investigations will explore all possibilities," Tellez said in a statement.
The deaths of Interior Minister Juan Camilo Mourino and security advisor Jose Luis Santiago Vasconcelos were a massive blow to the government's anti-drug strategy.
Mourino had led a government campaign against mounting drug-related violence -- in which some 4,000 have died so far this year -- including the deployment of some 36,000 troops across the country.
